New Road sits centrally in Burton Pidsea, connecting the two parallel roads that provide access in-and-out of the village, Main Road and Back Lane.
New Road was originally laid out in February 1843, as shown on the datestone.
The documentation to replace the old road reads:
“The old road being in some places only thirteen feet wide and the proposed new highway being thirty foot
wide
We do hereby certify that the proposed new highway is more commodious to the public in as much as it is
wider and more convenient for passengers in carts and carriages passing each other without danger”.
